🍂 Spark Creativity, Build Confidence, and Have Fun with Clay!
Tuesdays, September 16th – November 4th from 3:45–5:15 PM
Join us for 8 weeks of after-school pottery fun! Designed especially for kids ages 7–11, this weekly class offers a nurturing, hands-on space where young artists can play, explore, and create with clay.
With many SF schools scaling back their arts programs, we’re proud to offer an enriching, screen-free environment where creativity and curiosity thrive. Our curriculum is aligned with California Visual and Performing Arts Standards to support your child’s artistic development while also boosting fine motor skills, problem-solving, and confidence.
Each class is led by Studio Sumi’s Studio Manager, Kat, who brings years of ceramics experience and a natural talent for connecting with kids. With her thoughtful instruction and warm energy, students feel supported, challenged, and celebrated every step of the way.
To keep the vibe cozy and collaborative, class size is limited to just 8 students.
🎨 What We’ll Do:
Each week, we’ll explore new techniques and build on our skills with fun, seasonal, and functional projects. Your child will:
Learn handbuilding techniques like pinching, slab-building, coiling, and sculpting
Decorate with colorful underglaze, textures, and patterns
Create whimsical sculptures like creatures, miniatures, and tiny worlds
Understand the full clay process—from wet clay to glazed, fired ceramic art
Each project is thoughtfully designed to blend art-making with design thinking, and self-expression.

Dates: Tuesdays, September 16th – November 4th (8 weeks)
Time: 3:45–5:15 PM
Location: Studio Sumi, 5031 Geary Blvd, San Francisco
Who It’s For: Kids ages 7–11 (beginner-friendly, returning students welcome!)
Class Size: Limited to 8 students for individualized support
Make-ups: One optional make-up class will be offered during the session

All materials: clay, tools, aprons, and glazes
Kiln firing of all completed work
Expert instruction and creative guidance
Small class size for plenty of one-on-one support

$325 for the full 8-week session
Includes all materials, instruction, and firing fees.
Why Pottery?
Pottery gives kids the chance to slow down, get messy, and bring their ideas to life in a supportive, screen-free space. It’s a tactile, confidence-building activity that helps develop fine motor skills, patience, and imaginative thinking—all while having fun.
