Build It. Glaze It. Set the Table with It.
Ready to create your own set of handmade pottery? Join us for a cozy, creative 4-week handbuilding series where you’ll design and build your own tableware—plates, bowls, mugs, and more!
First session: Thursday, August 7th from 6:30–9pm
Second session: Thursday, August 14th from 6:30–9pm
Third session: Thursday, August 21st from 6:30–9pm
Last session: Thursday, August 28th from 6:30–9pm
This intimate class is limited to just 4 participants so you’ll get plenty of one-on-one guidance and space to explore your ideas. Whether you’re new to clay or looking to grow your skills, this workshop is perfect for anyone who loves functional art and slow, hands-on making.
What You’ll Learn:
Over the course of 4 weeks, you’ll dive into foundational techniques like slab-building, pinching, and coiling to build a cohesive tableware set. You'll also explore surface decoration and brush-on glazing—no wheel required!
Weekly Adventures in Clay:
Week 1:
Get to know the studio, meet your clay options, and build your first piece—a platter or dinner plate using slab molds. Learn how to add feet and handles to bring your form to life.
Week 2:
Learn coiling and pinching techniques to create a matching bowl or side dish. You'll also explore underglaze for adding color and surface design.
Week 3:
It’s mug time! Learn how to build and attach handles, and use open build time to finish or expand your set with other functional pieces.
Week 4:
Discover the art of brush-on glaze layering. You’ll glaze your bisqued pieces using our studio’s food-safe glaze selection and finish them off with color and personality.
What’s Included:
25 lbs. of clay
Studio tools, glazes, and all firings
Personal shelf space for storing your work
Optional open studio access from 11am–7pm daily (or 6am–midnight on class days)

FAQs:
First Class
Please arrive about 5 minutes before the class begins to check in and find a seat. The first class is important to attend because you will get the door code to the studio for your open studio days, and you will get a comprehensive tour of the studio and machinery.
Age Requirement
This class is 21+ and participants are welcome to BYOB—alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate will be provided to keep things cozy.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
To request a cancellation or refund, please email bri@sumiware.com. Please note: All refunds are subject to a $10 processing fee to cover transaction costs.
– Refunds requested more than one week prior to the workshop are fully refundable or you can reschedule to a different class.
– Refunds requested within one week of the workshop are 50% refundable.
– Rescheduling is available within 5 days of the start of class.
– No refunds are given within 24 hours of the start of class.

Sickness & COVID Policy
If you’re feeling unwell, especially with symptoms like fever, sore throat, or cough, please stay home. If you notify us at least 48 hours in advance, we’ll offer a one-time reschedule due to illness.
For COVID-related absences, you must notify us within 24 hours of the class and provide a doctor’s note to qualify for rescheduling. This helps us keep the studio safe and healthy for everyone.
