In-Studio Memberships

We’d love to welcome you to be part of Studio Sumi’s creative community!

Our in-studio memberships are designed for potters who have taken at least one workshop or class in the past year. Whether you’re focused on wheel throwing or handbuilding, Studio Sumi offers a welcoming space where you can work independently, experiment with new techniques, and connect with fellow artists.

Membership Options:

  • Shelf Size: 36" x 16" x 16" – $285/month

  • Shelf Size: 24" x 16" x 16" – $250/month

Who We’re Looking For:

  • You’ve taken at least 1 workshop or class in the past year.

  • You’re seeking a creative space where you can work independently.

  • You’re open to experimenting, learning, and sharing knowledge within our supportive community of fellow creatives.

Membership Perks & Benefits:

  • Open Studio access 7 days a week from 6am to midnight—including all major holidays.

  • Personal shelf space to store your work, tools, and materials.

  • Access to over 20 brushable studio glazes, including specialty glazes.

  • Bisque and Glaze firings included, with the option to rent the kiln for larger personal projects (additional cost).

  • Full use of community tools and specialty tools for both throwing and handbuilding.

  • Free 25lb bag of clay in your first month of membership.

  • Discounted tickets to all workshops at Studio Sumi.

  • Special gold lustre firings, exclusive to members.

  • Twice-yearly Open Studio Sales (Winter and Summer) where you can sell your work.

More About the Studio:

  • We are a smaller member studio with total capacity of 16 members total.

  • We fire to Cone 5/6 oxidation.

  • The studio is equipped with 2 Shimpo VL-Lite wheels and 4 large work tables for clay work and glazing.

  • Shimpo mini slab roller available for handbuilders.

  • In-house clays for purchase ($19 per 25lb bag):

    • Speckled Buff

    • B-Mix (with or without grog or speckles)

    • WC-617 Porcelain

    • Nara 5

    • B-3 Brown (Black Clay)

    • Red Velvet (formerly Navajo Wheel)

  • Sample bags of clay are available for $5 for 5lbs so you can try all the clay you want without the 25lb committment.

At-Home Memberships

Looking for the flexibility to work from home while having access to a professional studio for firings and more? Our at-home memberships are designed for potters with clay experience who can work independently but also want the option to access a studio space when needed.

Before you can become an at-home member, please fill out the form below to schedule a tour.

Membership Overview:

  • You have clay experience and can work independently at home.

  • You’re looking for a studio where you can consistently fire your work.

  • You want the flexibility of working at home, with the option to use a studio space during dedicated hours to access tools, glazes, and more.

At-Home Member Studio Hours:

  • Wednesdays: 12pm - 5pm

  • Saturdays & Sundays: 11am - 5pm

During these hours, at-home members can use studio tools, wheels, slab roller, and studio glazes. Members are also welcome to drop off and pick up pieces for firing during these times.

  • Access to over 20 brushable studio glazes, including specialty glazes during dedicated studio hours.

  • Full use of community tools and specialty tools for both throwing and handbuilding.during your studio time.

  • Drop-off/pick-up service for your work during studio hours, making it easy to get your pieces fired.
