Teach a beginner handbuilding series with room for everyone's own ideas.
This Studio Sumi pack includes four session plans, project instructions, printable student sheets, and classroom planning tools. Sessions 1-3 focus on construction and refinement of a slab dish, a pinch or coil bowl, and a slab mug. Underglaze and glaze are introduced and applied only in Session 4.
The plans are designed for instructors who already have basic handbuilding experience and are teaching beginner adults or teens. Each session is planned for about two hours. Schedule the final glazing session when the work has dried fully and completed bisque firing; the four sessions may need to span more than four weeks.
Four session plans with preparation, timing, demonstrations, and final checks.
Step-by-step guidance for a slab dish, pinch or coil bowl, and slab mug with a handle.
Four printable student sheets and two actual-size starter templates.
Materials planning, piece identification cards, a class log, and a project planner.
Underglaze and glazing guidance, troubleshooting, and further resources.
Who is this for?
Art teachers, camp leaders, and studio instructors with basic handbuilding experience who want a practical structure for teaching beginner adults or teens. The pack supports your teaching and assumes you can demonstrate and supervise the techniques.
Do I need a kiln?
You need access to suitable ceramic firing through your own equipped studio or a firing partner. Confirm the clay, glaze, firing range, and acceptance requirements with the kiln operator before class.
Does it have to run over four consecutive weeks?
No. There are four teaching sessions, each planned for about two hours. Allow the work to dry fully and complete bisque firing before the final glazing session. Later pieces may need an additional glazing opportunity.
What will I receive?
One 28-page PDF download with the teaching plans, project instructions, printable student sheets, starter templates, and planning tools. Your purchase does not include a physical item.
May I use it in my own paid classes?
Yes. One purchase covers one instructor. You may print the student handouts and templates for students in your own classes, including paid workshops. Please do not resell the files, share the full pack with other instructors, or upload any pages publicly. Other instructors need their own copy.
Are materials, firing, or personal coaching included?
The purchase is for the PDF teaching resource. You arrange clay, tools, glazes, studio space, and firing. Live classes and individual coaching are not included.
Can I use air-dry clay?
This pack is designed for ceramic clay and kiln firing. It does not provide an air-dry clay adaptation.
