We’re so excited to welcome POJ Studio to Studio Sumi for a very special 6-part kintsugi series.
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics using urushi lacquer, embracing the history of an object rather than trying to hide what happened to it. Over the course of 6 sessions, you’ll take a ceramic piece from broken to beautifully repaired while learning about kintsugi through its craft, history, and place within Japanese culture.
This isn’t a quick repair workshop. The slower pace of the series gives you the opportunity to experience the traditional process more fully, working through each stage of the repair alongside POJ Studio’s instructors.
Participants are encouraged to bring a ceramic piece of their own to repair, making the experience even more personal. A small plate or shallow bowl broken into 3–4 pieces is ideal.
