Meet Molly, a Studio Sumi instructor
Molly’s love for clay started early—at just 6 years old—when she attended Doodlebug Ceramics summer camp in San Anselmo. She loved it so much that years later, she returned as a camp teacher! Since then, Molly has gone on to study Figurative Sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art and earned her MFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design.
With a passion for both art and education, Molly has spent over a decade teaching pottery and sculpture to children, college students, and adults with developmental disabilities. She brings a warm, patient, and encouraging approach to every class, making sure each student feels confident to try something new and express themselves through clay.
Molly is also a longtime volunteer and summer camp instructor at WildCare in Marin, where she’s helped kids connect with animals and nature. Her classes are all about creativity, exploration, and fun—perfect for young artists who are curious about clay!
Tweens Camp FAQ (Ages 12–16)
Is this camp suitable for beginners?
Yes! Beginners and returning makers are welcome. We adapt guidance to the group’s experience and leave room for each camper’s own ideas.
What will they make?
Campers explore handbuilding, sculpture and surface decoration, creating functional pottery and imaginative pieces with pinch, slab and coil techniques. They can experiment with shape, texture and color.
What should my tween bring?
A water bottle and a snack or light lunch. Wear comfortable clothes that can get messy and closed-toe shoes. Clay, tools, aprons, decorating materials, glazing and kiln firing are included.
How many campers are in each session?
We are opening 10 places per session to keep the group small and give each camper space and individual guidance.
Can campers listen to music while they work?
Headphones or light shared music are welcome while creating, as long as campers can hear the instructor during demonstrations and group check-ins.
When can we collect the pottery?
Please allow about 4–5 weeks after the final camp day for drying, glazing and firing. We’ll email when pieces are ready. Please collect them within one month of that email, or contact us if you need more time.
Can my tween attend more than one week?
Yes! Projects and creative prompts vary by session so returning campers can keep exploring.
How does the holiday week work?
July 6–9 is a four-day camp, Tuesday–Friday, priced at $340. There is no camp on Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day, and no fifth makeup day. All other Tweens camp sessions run five days and cost $425.
What if our plans change or my child is ill?
Email bri@sumiware.com. More than 7 days before the first camp day, you may receive a refund minus a $10 processing fee or transfer to an available, age-appropriate session, with any tuition difference adjusted. With 7 days or fewer remaining, there are no refunds, credits or date changes except for the illness exceptions explained in “Cancellations, changes & missed days” above. Missed individual days are not refundable or eligible for credit. If Studio Sumi cancels or reschedules your camp, you may choose a full refund or an available transfer with no processing fee.
