Light Up Your Summer, One Lamp at a Time!

Light up your space with a piece that’s handmade by you. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll create a custom ceramic lamp using slab-building techniques. Whether you keep it minimal or add texture and detail, your finished piece will be both functional and beautiful. And yes, we’ll even wire it for you!

Under your instructor's guidance, you’ll cut, shape, and assemble clay pieces to form a unique lamp, ensuring you feel confident and creative throughout the process. You’ll also learn how to construct a sturdy structure to support a bulb and the wiring.

In this workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn the basics of slab-building and handbuilding with clay, cutting, attaching

  • Build and shape your lamp

  • Learn about carving, and how to add texture, and how to cut-out designs to personalize your piece

After you’ve completed your lamp, we will handle all of the kiln firings and hand glaze your piece in glossy white, which allows the natural speckles of the clay to shine through. Before you come pick up your lamp, we will wire it with a cord that has a on/off switch and a large round bulb. You’ll receive an email in about 4 weeks after the class with all of the pickup instructions!

Before Class

Please arrive about 5 minutes before the workshop begins so you can settle in.

Age Requirement

This class is 21+ and participants are welcome to BYOB—alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate will be provided to keep things cozy.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

To request a cancellation or refund, please email bri@sumiware.com. Please note: All refunds are subject to a $10 processing fee to cover transaction costs.
– Refunds requested more than one week prior to the workshop are fully refundable or you can reschedule to a different class.
– Refunds requested within one week of the workshop are 50% refundable.
– Rescheduling is available within 5 days of the start of class.
– No refunds are given within 24 hours of the start of class.

Sickness & COVID Policy

If you’re feeling unwell, especially with symptoms like fever, sore throat, or cough, please stay home. If you notify us at least 48 hours in advance, we’ll offer a one-time reschedule due to illness.

For COVID-related absences, you must notify us within 24 hours of the class and provide a doctor’s note to qualify for rescheduling. This helps us keep the studio safe and healthy for everyone.
